Our medical providers can refer you to a medical specialist if your health situation requires specialty care or if your health insurance company requires a referral prior to visiting a specialist. We have referral coordinators on our staff that will verify insurance requirements and schedule appointments with specialists as ordered by your physician.
Once your physician has given the referral coordinator a referral for an outside test or specialist, it may take up to 7-10 days to complete. Depending on where you are going and your insurance plan, an authorization may be required from your insurance company which may delay the process. Once authorization is obtained, we will then fax all required information to the specialist office. After they have reviewed your records as to why you’re being referred, they will contact you directly to schedule. Since they will be the one contacting you to schedule, please ensure that we have all updated contact information to keep from delaying the process any longer. If you have not heard from the specialty office after 10 days, please contact us so we can follow up.
We encourage you to be proactive and call your insurance company for coverage guidelines, especially for diagnostic testing (i.e. CT scans, MRI, etc).
